ATTENTION ALL ATTENDEES:
YOUR PHOTOGRAPH MAY BE TAKEN AT
COSTUME COLLEGE®.

As is customary at many of our events, photographs of participants and their guests are taken and posted on the Web.  This practice will occur at COSTUME COLLEGE®.  Under the circumstances there is a real possibility that your photograph may be taken by us or attendees and thereafter posted on the web.  By attending COSTUME COLLEGE®, you give your consent to the posting of such photographs by us or others and waive all rights and claims with respect to the posting of such photographs.

Bargain Bazaar and Exotic Emporium of Fascinating Finds
Emporium Empress, Patt Kopp and The Bargain Bat, Tao Will

It’s time to get rid of your costume clutter! Have patterns you don’t use anymore? Fabric you don’t want? Somebody gave you an unwanted bucket of buttons? Donate them to the Bargain Basement. If you want suggestions, ideas, moral support for donating something, you can e-mail Tao Will at cassilasanar@yahoo.com.

All proceeds from the raffles and the Bargain Basement go to support scholarships for next year's Costume College as well as other CGW events. Scholarships are for grants to help people pay for Costume College and who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend our College.  And because it’s all going for a good cause, you can get receipts for tax purposes.

Classes

Exhibits

There is no doubt about it - Costume College is a multi-dimensional affair.  Length equals the three-day cornucopia of classes; breadth equals the interpersonal exchange of ideas and skills with fellow students; and height equals the giddy pleasure of showing off your own creations to admiring viewers.

But there is a fourth dimension as well - namely, the Costume Exhibit - a collection of costumes and accessories contributed by fellow enthusiasts just like yourself.   You will see works that range from simple to complex, subtle to flashy, strictly historical to wildly imaginative, and everything between those extremes.   You will want to visit the Exhibit in order to admire, learn, emulate, gain inspiration, and be galvanized.

In addition to the costumes themselves, our Caught on Camera display will once again feature photos of costumers in their finery which were captured at events of the past year.

If you would like to display one of your creations, whether a full-body costume or an accessory, please contact Diane Yoshitomi at pvdame at cox dot net.  Or, if you haven't got luggage space to spare for a full costume but would like to submit one or more photos for the Caught on Camera display, get in touch with Valarie LaBore at cinnamonhrts at yahoo dot com.

Hospitality Suite

Top off your College experience with a visit to the Hospitality Suite! The location of the Suite and hours of business will be announced later. Put up your feet, have a cup of tea and show off your cell phone pictures of the costumes you see.

    Learning Circles

A Learning Circle is a group of people getting together, for one hour of time to talk about a costume related topic or interest, where we can get together to laugh, chat, and learn. If you have not dropped into a Learning Circle, make this year the year that you get involved. Some past topics have included: Harry Potter, Firefly, knitting, creating a steampunk hairstyle and making money through costuming.

We want to continue to improve Learning Circles, so we need your ideas and involvement! Let us know what you are interested in attending, what you'd like to see return, and if you'd like to run a Learning Circle. Contact us programcollege@yahoo.com with your thoughts and ideas!

    Panic Room/Sewing Retreat

It seems that just getting to Costume College® is so time consuming that we didn’t have time to finish our garments for the Gala or Tea.  Or, maybe you just need a little more time and more space than is available in your hotel room to complete the workshop project you started.  Perhaps all you need is an extra pair of hands to complete that little fitting challenge that has been eluding you.

Welcome to the Panic Room and Sewing Retreat.  Costume College® is providing just the time and space you need to get the finishing touches done.  There will be tables, an iron and ironing board and maybe even a helping hand and a little sympathy.

    Photography Studio

Let’s face it, costuming is a visual hobby. What better way to preserve your Costume College memories than with a professional photo? You know, one without the hotel carpet or “exit” sign in it? Head over to our Photographer’s Studio and give us your best side. You will be able to view your photo session digitally and select which shots you would like to have printed on the spot. (Pick-up time may vary, based on how busy the room is.)

Here is a link to the Costume College 2011 Photography Studio Photos.

Bring your best smiles! See you there!

    Tours

Welcome to the Tour Department of your Costume College® weekend.  Taking a Tour with us is a great way to get to know other attendees. There’s plenty of time to chat on the bus while you travel.  If you don’t know a soul when you arrive, you will by the end of the tour.

Tours are treated just like the “Limited Attendance” classes so check your scheduling and preferences very carefully, and get your requests in early!!!  (Like all “Limited Attendance” classes, tours are not transferrable, and you cannot sell your spot.)  Please refer to your paperwork for further information regarding how to sign-up for the tours. No one will be permitted to add a tour on site. Tour sign-ups close May 7, 2011.

    Volunteers

If you have attended Costume College before, then you have seen for yourself just how many people it takes to run this event.  From the Committee Members who spend all year preparing, to those who refill the snack trays on a Saturday afternoon- we are ALL volunteers. Costume College could not happen without people willing to give of their time.

If this is your first experience with Costume College, then let me say “Welcome! Glad to have you! You’re going to have a GREAT time!” I know that this packet you hold in your hands can seem a bit overwhelming, so I’ll try not to add much to it except to tell you to expect an e-mail from me requesting volunteers. (Look for it in June!)

After you have planned out all your classes (am I the only one who color-codes them?) and you find yourself with a spare hour or two, please consider volunteering. It’s a great way to meet people and be “part of the magic” of Costume College.

Oh, hey! Did I mention the prizes? Yes, prizes! (Look out for that e-mail for details!) Would I ask you to work for nothing? And for those of you who pre-register with me (coordinating your hours prior to your arrival at the hotel) there will be a special “Thank You” gift for your commitment.  How easy is that?!

Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I am more than happy to clarify. Just send Tadao Tomomatsu a note.
